[homeschoolhub] File - Important Info

This post will go out each month as a reminder. Just delete it once you have it memorized. :-)

First, you can access the website at hshub.org. It is FULL of info on local groups, homeschooling, contests, scholarships, how to make your own free/nearly free individualized curriculum, fun youtube videos, etc. If you haven't been there in a while, check it out! New homeschoolers might especially find this article useful: http://hshub.org/New_to_Homeschooling_.html

Second, if you haven't signed up for the weekly email newsletter, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! It is full of events, field trips, activities, scholarships, volunteer opportunities, etc. for families. To sign up, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HUBnewsletter/ OR send an email to the following address: HUBnewsletter-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Third, the Homeschool HUB is a volunteer organization. We need local homeschool support to continue to function. Please consider helping out. You can serve on the board, teach a class, organize a play group, organize a field trip, teach a one-night workshop (on anything--cooking pizza, using Prezi or MS Word, painting, martial arts, dog breeds, Chinese culture...), throw a party, host a Shakespeare club, give a talk, or anything else you can think of. If you're interested in something, chances are another homeschooler will be, too.

Thank you!

[homeschoolhub] Have you been praying about affordable music classes for your children?

Have you been praying about affordable music classes for your children?

Music Naturally, a music initiative currently in a Saint Joe, MI-has an opening for a Lead Teacher who would then be able to enroll 4 of their children into the two hour Tuesday morning classes offered.

Lead Teachers do not have to be music certified, this is a parent cooperative offering students motivation and encouragement from parents passionate about music in the family and community setting.

What does a lead teacher do?

Leads piano (John Thompson) or strings (Suzuki) class in musical skills and basic music theory

Provides weekly written feedback and practice motivation

Mentors class participants as they prepare to perform each 10 week session in a local performance.

We are looking for a Piano lead currently. Call Jenny Siek to arrange an information session (610) 945-7895 or email sevensieks@... and tell us about your musical background and goals in music study for your family.

[homeschoolhub] Pops Concert 5/31

(Shelby is a former homeschooled student now working at Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Elkhart County.)

Hello,

My name is Shelby Herms and I'm the Events Coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Elkhart County.  We are excited to be a part of an upcoming event presented by the Indiana All-Star Symphonic Band, and thought it could be a great activity for Homeschool families.  "One More Time! Charity Pops Concert" will be on Sunday, May 31st, at 4:00p.m. at the Beickman Performing Arts Center at Concord High School.  The concert will feature Music Director Gerald Knipfel, who is retiring from the Concord Band, as well as many talented guest conductors and soloists from across the state.

Tickets are $5, with all proceeds benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Concord Band, and the Salvation Army.  However, if you would like to purchase more than 8 tickets, we can offer a discounted rate. Additionally, for every ticket purchased, generous sponsors will donate another $10 back to our agencies; so, not only do you get to attend a great event with many gifted musicians, you are helping these local non-profit agencies!

You can find more information on our website at www.bbbselkhart.org or by calling the Big Brothers Big Sisters office.  To purchase tickets, please call the BBBS office at 574-875-1039.  I can mail you the tickets, you can pick them up at our office in Dunlap, or we can hold them at will call for you.

Thanks, and we hope to see you there!
