[homeschoolhub] Thanksgiving Soccer, Thurs. Nov. 24, 10:30 a.m.

 

It's that time again! Time for the First Annual Bi-State Thanksgiving Homeschool Soccer Game. (It's the first time we've ever done it but it's time to do it again!)

There will be grass for all. The sweating and the labored breathing will be optional. (But I'll be having big helpings of both!)

Everyone is welcome (even Dads!) regardless of age, or level of skill or fitness. If you've never been before, this would be a great day to start.

10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Howard Park on the corner of St. Louis Blvd. and Jefferson Blvd in South Bend.

If you can't make it, have a terrific family Thanksgiving anyway!

Book Clubs at the Niles District Library

Guys Read – Guys Read is a book club just for guys between the ages of 13 and 18. We will meet on Thursdays from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, starting December 1st in the board room at the Niles District Library. The first book we will be reading is The Maze Runner by James Dashner. Make sure you have a library card so you can get your copy! If you would like to sign up for Guys Read or have any questions, please see Brandon at the Information Desk or call 269-683-8545 x111.

 

Girls Read – Girls Read is a book club just for girls between the ages of 13 and 18. We will meet on Thursdays from 4:30pm – 6:00pm, starting December 1st in the board room at the Niles District Library. The next book we will reading is The Fallen By Celia Thomson. [homeschoolhub] Soccer and the Reins, Mon. 11/14, 3-5 p.m.

 

Last week we had a great game despite the constant light rain. It was a bit wet, but not too wet.

This week, I've been informed that we will be doing without two of our most reliable, enthusiastic and skillful players, Big T and Big V, who will be doing some volunteer work for a terrific charity: Reins of Life. We wish them the best in their important work, and we look forward to their return in the Spring. But in the meantime, who will fill those enormous (and enormously athletic) shoes?

Do you have what it takes? Have you been lurking on the Yahoo! group, reading (and perhaps dreaming) of joining the homeschool soccer gang? This is the time. Perhaps you (or your child) is exactly the sort of cheerful, good-hearted boy or girl who will add to the fun just like Big V and Big T did back when they were Little V and Little T.

[homeschoolhub] Soccer whether? Mon. 11/7, 3-5 p.m.

 

For some, all weather is soccer weather. Like the historic letter carriers: neither rain, nor sleet, nor chill of night will stay these wanna b'atheletes from their chosen sport. My Herbie is one.

Nonetheless, if the rain is pouring down this afternoon, I choose to remain warm and dry. In the intermediate case, weather that is drizzling or threatening but not immediately dire, I guess Herbie and I will take to the field.

We've had some amazing weather luck this season. With only a 40% chance of rain today, we could have another fine game day . . . or not. Can you handle the uncertainty? I can. If only because Herbie is a rock and I can count on him to take whatever comes with good humor.

Hope to see you there today. If not, may we have a rain check?
