I'm easily addicted: comic books, video games, bad T.V. If it's nearly
mindless, repetitive and childish, I'm there.

Accordingly, I'll be out on the soccer field trying unsuccessfully to master the game. Run, dodge, pass, get clear, one shot, score!!! Or not. The high lasts longer than a comic book, and soccer doesn't make me jittery like video games, or stupid like TV.

I hope the kids enjoy it too.

[homeschoolhub] SB/Mish babysitter wanted during school year. Homeschool parent or teen?

 


Hello Everyone!! We are in need of a permanent, part time babysitter/nanny/daycare for the upcoming school year.  Two days per week, approx 6-8 hours per day.  My husband and I are both working full time on mostly opposite schedules, but we will need someone to be with our kids for 2 days per week. Possibly a third day occasionally.  Ideally, the days would be flexible, and would mostly be either wed-thurs or thurs-fri, but if having the days be set is a dealbreaker for the right caregiver, we might be able to work that out.  We haven't tried to do this with a non-family member, and we're not sure what will work best, so we are open to discussing all types of situations.  Babysitter to come here, us to drop kids off there, etc.  A homeschool parent who would be willing to add them to her/his brood for the day?  A HS teen looking to make some money?    My kids are 4.5 and nearly 8.  No diapers, bottles or toddler tantrums, just homeschooled kids who like to play :)  The only thing we are certain of is that we aren't going to want to drive very far if we end up doing a drop-off situation, so anyone more than 15 minutes outside of downtown south bend or mishawaka won't work for us unless you come here.   Ability to drive them around not required.  We would be willing to consider a younger teen who is responsible - really, they just need to be fed, and played with :)

[homeschoolhub] Soccer for Fun! 7/9, Mon. 3-5? p.m.

 

Why do we play? Why does H ask me all weekend "Have you posted soccer, yet?" "Have you advertised the soccer game yet?"

People have various reasons: to daydream of Olympic (or World Cup) glory? to show off? to dominate and be superior to others? to learn some new skills? to be respected as a member of a team? to talk and joke with new people? to exercise? to enjoy the outdoors?

J and I play to enjoy our children and to help create a positive environment for them. We abhor the "smack talk" of athletes who try to belittle their opponents and clearly divide the world into the winners and the (worthless) losers. We hope that the players who compete fiercely in the context of a particular play will be laughing and complementing each other a moment later.

The good news is that we've been successful. We are proud of the way so many of the soccer kids can be trusted to be kind to the smaller, slower, (older?), or less experienced players. We love the way kids of all sizes, ages and abilities can all come away with a winning experience.

We really mean it when we say, "Everyone is welcome regardless of age, or level of skill or fitness." Join us?

Time to Run for Fun!
 
The Banana Split Relay is a track relay featuring two events, a 6 mile run and
4 mile walk to be held on Saturday July 28th in Saint Joe, Michigan.
Kevin Siek of St. Joe is coordinating a few teams of interested runners/walkers for this event. Kevin has enjoyed a 28 year running career and has finished first in his two most recent Berrien County races, including the Blossomtime 5K. He is a homeschooling Dad and enjoys sharing his love of running with all ages.
This opportunity is perfect for current students running track in school, for families looking to increase their fitness goals and even youngsters who want to see what it is like to participate in a relay. Any age is welcomed.
