[homeschoolhub] Soccer for all Ages, Mon., 4/29, 3-5 p.m.

Last week's game was great: another big turnout, lots of running and passing, and a big spread of ages and levels of ability. I especially appreciated how y'all allowed the littlest ones, the "tiny team" to have their turns with the ball.

Let's do even better with that this week.

1. If a player indicates that a pass is intended for a tiny person (generally players of about 6 years of age who cannot really compete with anyone 10 or older), let the pass reach the tiny teamer.

2. If the tiny teamer gets the ball, allow him or her to kick it at least 3 times, and don't grab the ball until it stops after the last kick.

3. If the tiny teamer wants to dribble, let him or her dribble as much as he or she wants. Let him or her kick it at the end.

4. If an older player shouts "tiny team," that's the signal that we'll allow two or more tinies to dribble and kick and pass to each other. I'll let you know when the regular game begins again.

How's that strike you? Feedback is welcome.

Monday, April 29, from 3-5 p.m. at Howard Park at the corner of St. Louis Blvd. and Jefferson Blvd. in South Bend.

Everyone is welcome everyone regardless of age or level of skill or fitness. Everyone will be treated well.

Re: [homeschoolhub] Re: File - NEW MEMBERS

Welcome.  My oldest is 14.  Are you aware of the two partnership programs for MI students?  Most homeschool families in the area (in MI) participate in one of them.  There is a field trip class if you are looking for field trips.  My son has taken theatre, violin lessons, FabLab, Swim lessons, gymnastics, etc, through the programs.

Also, we are having a Homeschool Showcase on the 6th if you'd like to meet some more homeschool families and see what they have been doing.  See the newsletter if you need more details.

Feel free to recommend the programs you use on here if you wish.

[homeschoolhub] Soccer in the Park, Mon. 4/22, 3-5 p.m.

Great game last week using the really big field! Apparently a "60% chance of precipitation" means "perfect soccer weather."

There was some discussion last week about whether a player may throw the ball to himself or herself. As I noted at the time, the answer is "no." (See "Law 15" at the end of this message.) Of course, in our games, my ruling are law anyway. (Someone's ruling must be final.) So even if I apply a rule "incorrectly," we're still going to follow my interpretation of the rule unless someone persuades me to change. And we are going to accept my ruling with some measure of grace as well.

In our homeschooler games, we deliberately deviate from the official laws of soccer in several respects:

1. We don't count goals that I judge to be dangerously high - generally above the shins.

2. We don't count goals when the ball has touched any part of the goal post or the imaginary cylinder arising at a 90% angle from the ground above the goal post or cone.

3. We avoid kicking the ball above shin height when there is any chance of hitting a child (or a grey-haired adult).

4. We let the youngest children kick the ball once or twice without interference and we let them dribble for some distance without taking the ball from them.

5. We sometimes play without goalies and then mark a rectangle in front of the goal into which players may not step when the ball is in play.

We deviate from the unwritten rules of some teams and parks and neighborhoods in that:

- We treat everyone well.

- We welcome everyone regardless of age or level of skill or fitness.

Monday, April 22, from 3-5 p.m. at Howard Park at the corner of St.
Louis Blvd. and Jefferson Blvd. in South Bend.

LAW 15 - Throw-in
A throw-in is taken to restart a game after the ball goes out of play over the touchline. A throw- in is taken by a player from the team, which did not touch the ball last. The player throwing the ball in must have both feet on the ground and both hands on the ball over his head. Both feet must remain on or behind the touchline.
The thrower must throw the ball with equal strength from both hands from the back of the head and over the top of the head. The thrower must not play the ball again until another player from either team has touched the ball. A player cannot score a goal directly from a throw-in. A player in the offside position receiving the ball directly from a throw-in is not offside.

Re: [homeschoolhub] New here

Hi Liz! I'm Amanda and I am also looking for homeschoolers in the area. I used to live in the LaPorte area, but live in Sawyer, MI now. I am only about 30min away, though. I have an almost 3 year old and an almost 2 year old. If you ever want to talk, my email is ragl.layman@gmail.com. I am starting in the Fall a curriculum with my to-be 3yr old. I know my son is early for homeschooling, but I just want to get him into a routine. So if you ever want to talk, feel free to email me!
Congratulations on your new baby girl soon!

Hello, I'm Liz Quinto, wife to Frank Quinto. We are moving to LaPorte, IN next week. I have a 5-year-old daughter named Julia. She is supposed to be in Kindy this fall, but I would love to homeschool her if I find social support :) I am expecting baby girl number 2, due May 19th. I'd love to get involved, depending on when I get used to the new routine with our new baby. Looking for other homeschool families in the LaPorte area. Thank you!
